Q: How long have you been with Membersy? How has the company changed since you’ve been here?
A: For almost a year (since November 2022). The company and our Product & Engineering team have grown a lot. Lots of new talented people who are working hard every day to make our Product better.
Q: What does your typical day look like?
A: My typical day consists of Sprint meetings, writing test cases, testing new features, writing bug reports, creating automated scripts, working on the documentation, communicating with my team and other departments and then … more testing.
Q: What is your favorite part about working for Membersy?
A: The people at Membersy. Everyone is very nice and supportive. I am impressed with how much progress we have made together.
Q: What drew you to Membersy originally?
A: I am a strong believer in membership plans and that the insurance system needs a fix. I also liked the idea of being able to visit Austin from time to time as there's no such thing as too much Terry Black's BBQ 😋
Q: What's the most exciting project or achievement you've been involved in at work?
A: We’ve been working on a new software almost from scratch. It is very exciting but comes with a lot of responsibilities and a great deal of careful consideration when making decisions.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in the field of QA and testing?
A: I am originally from Belarus and have a background in Foreign Languages and Economics. I made my first steps in software testing when I volunteered as a beta tester for Tech companies there. But my actual career in software testing started when we immigrated to the USA. Since then I’ve been always trying to pick up technical skills through continuing education and different online courses. I worked with small startups and bigger companies and learned different technologies and tools.
Q: As a QA Lead, what are your primary responsibilities and how do they contribute to the success of our projects or products?
A: My primary responsibility is setting quality standards for the team. This could include finding new testing tools, frameworks or new ways of organizing processes.
Q: In the ever-evolving world of technology, how do you stay up-to-date with the latest QA trends, tools, and best practices?
A: I try to never stop learning and implementing new things.
Q: QA often involves dealing with unexpected issues and tight deadlines. How do you and your team manage stress and maintain a positive attitude when facing challenging situations?
A: Setting priorities is the key. It is also important to set clear expectations within the team and communicate any challenges so everyone can be on the same page.
Q: Training and development are crucial in any profession. Are there any resources or training programs you recommend for those interested in pursuing a career in QA?
A: There are a lot of opportunities currently available for online learning from short courses to complex coding bootcamps. There are also platforms where you can earn money by testing for different companies and apply new skills while working as a freelance QA during free time.
Q: What's your favorite way to unwind and relax after a long day?
A: Knitting or crocheting while watching a TV show.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and how would you use it?
A: I would love to be able to read other people's minds. I think it could be very helpful to improve communication between people. Sometimes we say not what we mean or we are afraid to tell the truth and to offend someone.
Q: Are there any interesting travel destinations on your bucket list?
A: I’d love to go to Europe and visit Santorini, Greece to experience its beautiful sunsets.
Q: Do you have a favorite inspirational quote or mantra that you live by?
A: “Do one thing every day that scares you”.
Thank you for all that you do for us, Yulyana!
